SERVICE TO THE WOUNDED

What do we, members of the USMC Scout/Sniper Association, mean when we say Community?  Our President, Major Allen Boothby, USMC Ret. said it best in an email to S/SA member, Dylan Gray, on 12 March 2007 after visiting Dylan at Bethesda National Naval Medical Center.

Dylan,
I really enjoyed meeting with you and your bride today. I thank God that you have maintained such tremendous spirit despite the hardships you have had to face at such a young age. Three straight deployments - wow. Your experience, strength and attitude is exactly the kind of veteran service we hope to encourage to join our Association.  I could see it in your eyes - that unconquerable spirit that gave this Nation her reputation, and it's now 2300 and I am still thinking about how important I think it is to have you as a fellow member.

If you have ever seen the movie, The Godfather, the mafia always refer to their "union" by their motto: "La Cosa Nostra" translated as "This Thing of Ours." The members of the Scout Sniper Association feel the same way. Not mafia, mind you; but that our Association belongs to Scout Snipers like yourself to enable one and all a place where we can easily contact each other and try to keep the MOS strong and growing stronger into the future.

Semper Fidelis,
Keep the faith, brother,
Allen

SERVICE TO THE FALLEN
01 August 2005. The Battle of Haditha, a small village northeast of Baghdad. A six-man Marine Sniper unit on the outskirts of Haditha was ambushed by a large insurgent force. All members of the unit were killed.  All members of the unit belonged to the same Ohio-based battalion.  H&S Company, 25th Marine Regiment, 3rd Battalion, headquartered in Brook Park, Ohio, a suburb of Cleveland.

Our Scout Sniper Association Ambassador, Jim Gularte, wasted no time making travel arrangements from his home in California to be with our brother families in Ohio to offer aid and support.

SERVICE TO THE THOSE DEPLOYED IN HARM'S WAY
The USMC Scout/Sniper Association has shipped over 1,000 pounds of supplies to our sniper platoons currently deployed in defense of our country.  We call our mission, Operation Assist.  The ongoing work and dedication of Bob Depp, Meg Temple and Ken Temple make this mission possible.  For more information and contributions, please visit our Operation Assist section.

LA COSA NOSTRA

We go where we're needed.  We help where we can.  When our brothers are hurt, fallen, or in harm's way, the USMC Scout Sniper Association is there.  With support.  With prayers.  With supplies.  With whatever they need.  It's La Costa Nostrum, as Major Boothby says.  This Thing Of Ours.
