Wendell Lewis Day
| Wendell Lewis day was the first KIA of 1st Marines Snipers in RVN. He tripped a booby trap in the Horseshoe area on August 17,
1967. He's listed on the web site of the Virtual Wall (www.thevirtualwall.org)
as only an 0311, which represents our collective struggle for proper
recognition then and now as 8541s.
In August 1967 the Horseshoe area was part of 3/1's TAOR. The Horseshoe was equidistant between Hoi An and Marble Mountain, inland from the coast a click or two. It is the same general area where Lewis tripped a booby trap in 1968. Wendell came from York, PA and can be found on the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall at Panel 25E, Row 6.
